SKIN BENEFITS OF LEAN PROTEIN

Sep 27, 2013

If you thought the only benefits for lean protein was your muscles then keep reading. And if you thought the only ways to get a boost of collagen were to use harsh and drying retinoids or to book a lunchtime appointment with a plastic surgeon, then think again. More times than not, cosmetics are made to mimic nature. This is why sometimes you never have to go farther than nutrition.

Lean proteins act as inner cosmetics. They make you look beautiful on the outside from the inside as they accelerate collagen production. What’s so phenomenal about collagen? It’s the protein found in connective tissue that keeps your skin plump and healthy. Here’s the breakdown: Naturally, you start losing collagen from the time you finish with college, in the beginning of your twenties. But you don’t begin see the effects until maybe a decade or two (if you’re lucky!) later, which in less verbose terms means that if you never lost collagen then you’d never see a single wrinkle!

Convinced about incorporating more lean proteins yet? Oh. Not sure what they are exactly?

Meats like chicken, beef and lamb are all sources of lean protein. Of course to get the full lean benefits you will need to prepare them in the leaner way possibles which is grilling. Do you have a George Forman? Easy enough, right?

Milk isn’t exactly what comes to mind when we think of protein, but it very much is. However, as you probably already know, whole milk and milk with higher percentages contain lots of fat. So add a small amount to your morning smoothie or oatmeal to get your serving.

But of course if you’re a vegetarian or vegan, you don’t have to get your dose from meat or other animal products. Your source isn’t as elusive as you may think. Try adding a small handful of chick peas or kidney beans to your next tossed salad. Note: Plant-based sources of protein are lower in fat than meat-based ones so go for it!
