Whether it’s on a balmy, tropical island or set somewhere in a quaint European village, destination weddings are the pinnacles of romance. The bride and groom have invited you to join them in their nuptials, and while it seems like the perfect excuse to escape reality for a few days, what to pack can become a little overwhelming.
The Essentials:
Camera, plus accessories. Of course there will be a hired photographer to capture the moments, but you’ll definitely want your own candid shots of the wedding, pre/post wedding events, and the gorgeous, scenic atmosphere of your destination. Make sure you bring your camera’s adapter or charger and a spare memory card.
Special occasion outfits. These include what dresses or ensembles you will be wearing to the actual wedding ceremony as well as the rehearsal dinner and goodbye brunch. You’re probably flying somewhere thousands of miles away and not packing your exact outfits for these crucial events is simply not an option, especially if you’re headed to a remote island in the Caribbean where shops won’t contain the things you’re used to.
Casual outfit options. When you go to a destination wedding, there are a lot of activities that people may be doing. Make sure to pack options for all different daytime activities that the couple may have planned for you and for some down time exploring.
Flat and heel options. Wear your five-inchers to the wedding ceremony and then change out into lower-heeled or flat versions of them to dance at the reception. Many designers like Saint Laurent and Christian Louboutin do modestly heeled and flat versions of their too-high stilettos and pumps. By bringing both versions of the same shoe, your outfit never has to suffer or shift concepts when those blisters start popping up.
Tampons/pads. Even if it’s not your time of the month, you never know who might be and forget theirs. Be the girl who saves the day.
Contraception. You never know who you might lock gazes with, share an elevator with, or what mood you might be in (oh, come on! You knowww you have fantasized about a “hot, guest-at-a-wedding elevator hookup!”). Whether you fly solo or as one-half of a duo, make sure to pack whatever form of birth control you use.
Wedding gift. Remember, the destination you’re headed to is a wonderful perk where you get to witness your friend or family member be joined in marriage. And even though you will most likely have to cover your own travel and stay costs, you are still expected to give the couple a gift.
*FLT: Lindsi tries as hard as she can to NOT check luggage! Do everything in your power to be a good packer to avoid the mishaps of lost luggage. Cringe.*
