MAKEUP TIPS FOR ACNE-PRONE SKIN

Oct 28, 2013

Acne-prone skin is oiler and usually more sensitive and because of it’s sensitivity you feel extra paranoid about random blemishes disturbing the peace. The majority of foundations are thick and oily, which leads to your nemesis: clogged pores. So you take the simple route and avoid them altogether. But makeup—whether it’s only foundations and concealers that you fear or blushes, bronzes and highlighters are also on your Can’t Risk It list—doesn’t have to be a complete avoidance.

• Clean your brushes regularly to avoid clogging your pores with stale makeup residue
• Exfoliate regularly to remove dead skin cells so you’re always working with fresh skin
• Use a cleanser, not just wipes to ensure a rejuvenating deep clean
• Don’t be rough when applying foundation because the harder you push it in, the deeper it gets into your pores, which can lead to excessive  clogging
• Never fall asleep with makeup because the excess oils that most acne-prone skin has will irritate your skin even more with it covered in makeup and also clog your pores
• Use oil-free formulas to avoid looking greasy or shiny
• Do a weekly preventative mask treatment to really get either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid deep in your skin
• Mix blemish cream with your foundation so you treat while you cover
• Take a break from wearing makeup when you can like on causal weekends or vacations

With a little extra attention to detail makeup can be as fun and as exciting as it is for those girls who have clear, low-maintenance skin.
