We beg for the sun for months and as soon as it shows up we’re on the hunt for the newest, stylish way to hide our eyes from those harmful rays. Some people choose to rock sunnies simply for protection, but most of us opt for that incognito, unapproachable, celeb vibe they give off when strutting down the street.

The way to find the perfect pair of sunglasses that will flatter your face is to shop not by designer, not by design or trend, but by style.  Unlike most fashion accessories, sunglasses are one of the few items that should be purchased with purpose. The “style reality check” is in fact that only certain shape sunnies work best to flatter particular shaped faces. So if you have been purchasing the wrong shape for your face, I have got you covered for your next sunnie pit stop!

Round faces. If you have full cheeks with a narrow forehead and jaw, you’re the perfect girl to channel your inner feline the way both Marilyn Monroe and Dinah Manoff did in the 1950s. You should try wide ovals or cat-eyes.  The width of these frames and flared outer edges of these shapes will take away from your face’s full appearance.

Square faces. Retro-round, quintessential-oval, or flared cat-eyes balance out the boxiness of your face. Your broad forehead and wide jaw make you proportioned like a square so a lot of shapes flatter your face.  The only shapes you should avoid are those with sharp, angular frames like wayfarers.

Heart shaped faces. The shape of love, you have a forehead and prominent cheekbones that are wider than your chin. Play with round frames and slight cat-eyes and have fun with retro styles and colors.

Oblong faces. You identify with having a long face, but instead of an egg shape, the shape is closer to a rectangle. The best shape for you is one that will balance out your elongated face, like a pair of huge Jackie O’ sunglasses. The bigger the better, so stay away from smaller frames that will make your face appear larger than it is.

Oval faces. Having an oval face means you’ve got a balance forehead, chin, and cheeks and pretty much everything is flattering on you. Lucky girl! There are, however, shapes that work best. Frames that slightly extend past the widest part of your face generally will play up your proportioned facial structure.

Your Fast Lane Girl, Amber
