Beach hair is all about looking natural and effortless while keeping your windblown tresses away from your face so you don’t block any of those golden sun rays. It’s about wearing the styles that look like you didn’t style at all. Here are a few easy, breezy styles that will give you that mix between bed-head and glam.
Side fishtail braid. Fishtail braids are the du jour of the side braids nowadays and fitting for the marine vibe of the beach. Although they look elaborate and intimidating, they’re actually very simple. Instead of separating your hair into three sections like you would for a typical braid, break your hair in two sections and hold them in one hand. Then pull a thin section from the outside and fold it over to the other half. Once it’s there you continue as if you were braising a normal braid only your third section is tiny!
Headband braid. Braids are quintessentially beach chic, and the headband is a fun way to keep your hair from blowing into your face. Simply braid a thin section of your hair in the front on one side, wrap it along your hairline and pin it near your ear on the other side.
Natural waves/curls. Jenny Strebe, hairstylist and founder of Confessionsofahairstylist.com, says that, “Texture is key when creating natural beach waves.” To get the perfect look she suggests adding Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray in towel dried hair, twist hair in 2-3 (non perfect) sections and then blow dry in on low air setting. And if you don’t have a dryer handy to simply, “Scrunch hair with a dry towel upwards,” to get the beachy look.
French braids into a bun. Just want to soak up some sun and keep your hair out of your face without sacrificing elegance? This is the perfect style for you!
Jenny also advises to invest in products that have UV protectants in them because, “Just like your skin, believe it or not, your hair needs sunscreen as well.” This mane connoisseur’s favorite is the Keratase Aqua Seal.
